🎤 About the Festival
Blues Remix Brussels 2025
returns with a renewed mission: to celebrate the joy of Blues while engaging in a meaningful and respectful dialogue around its cultural heritage. Taking place from September 5–7, this year’s edition shines a light on Blues as a living legacy — rooted in African American history, resilience, and creativity.
We invite dancers, musicians, educators, and allies to honour this tradition while co-creating within it, with full awareness of its origins.
Throughout the weekend, you’ll experience:
- Blues dance and music workshops
- Cultural dialogue sessions
- Community games and social activities
- Live jam sessions and late-night parties
- Panels and reflection spaces
What’s the vibe?
We’re here for the joy. But we’re also here to listen. To the music, to the stories behind it, to each other.
Blues Remix isn’t just a dance and music festival — it’s a celebration of a living legacy. One that asks us: how can we participate in a culture with care, with heart, and with honesty?
This year, we embrace the joy of Blues while remembering the legacy behind it — and our responsibility to carry it forward with respect.
💙 Our Vision & Values
Festivals have the power to bring people together — to spark connection, celebrate culture, and nurture community. At Blues Remix Brussels, we gather around our shared passion for Blues music and dance, rooted in its rich and resilient African American heritage.
We honour the traditional roots of Blues — both in spirit and in practice. From the music to the movement, from our content to our daily logistics, we aim to respect and uplift the legacy of African American vernacular music and dance. We recognise that we are guests in this culture, and we walk this path with care, humility, and a willingness to learn.
Together with our international community, we grow by listening to and learning from artists, educators, and musicians who share our values. These values shape every choice we make, on stage and off:

🌍 Cultural Awareness and Responsibility
We approach Blues as a cultural tradition — not a product or trend.
We commit to:
- Creating space to learn about history, culture, and appropriation
- Amplifying Black voices and artists
- Sharing historical context in every workshop and performance
- Avoiding tokenism and surface-level representations
We believe that cultural celebration must go hand in hand with cultural responsibility.
⚖️ Gender Inclusivity and Role Fluidity
We celebrate the freedom to be who you are — and to dance how you want.
We aim to:
- Use inclusive language in everything we share
- Encourage all dance roles, regardless of gender
- Reflect gender balance across our teachers, musicians, and team
- Invite women and nonbinary artists on stage and into the spotlight
We pay tribute to the countless African American women of Blues and Jazz who paved the way — and to all those continuing to work for equity and representation today.
🫂 Togetherness & Accessibility
This is a festival for everyone. We care about who feels included — and how.
We provide:
- A warm welcome for first-timers, solo travellers, and curious beginners
- Affordable ticketing and local community engagement
- Events in parks, cafés, and public spaces to keep the vibe open and relaxed
We want everyone to feel they belong here — just as they are.
💙 Consent and Care Culture
We hold space for safety, joy, and mutual respect.
We offer:
- A visible, clear code of conduct
- A trained safer space care team
- Empowerment sessions about boundaries, self-expression, and giving/receiving feedback
We stand firmly against discrimination and harmful behaviour. Care is an active choice — and a collective practice.
🎶 Music and Dance as Dialogue
At Blues Remix, music and dance are partners in conversation — not separate worlds.
We believe in:
- Spaces where dancers and musicians learn with each other
- Jam sessions that celebrate improvisation and play
- Workshops that dive into rhythm, musicality, and storytelling
We love the Remix — but we never forget the roots.
🎨 Creative Exchange with Respect
While deeply grounded in the Blues tradition, we also love to experiment — bringing together different art forms, perspectives, and moments of expression.
At our festival, you’ll find:
- Dance, music, visuals,
- Cultural dialogue alongside collective joy
- A canvas of creativity that reflects the vibrancy of our community
Above all, we believe in kindness.
We work to create a space where people feel safe, seen, and supported — a space where we care for each other and where differences are not just accepted but celebrated.
